The Daniel-Mickel Center for Executive Education is the executive education arm of the Moore School of Business. We provide public seminars to executives and managers; partner with organizations to design customized programs; provide consulting assistance on ways to maximize the intellectual capital of a company's staff; and coordinate the school's Global Business Forum.
Arie De Geus, (formerly) CEO, Royal Dutch Shell, said not long ago that "the ability to learn
faster than your competitors may be the only sustainable competitive advantage."
In today's incredibly fast-paced, competitive business world, successful leaders and managers
must continue to learn at lightning speed to keep up their skills and understanding of the "big
picture." Learning on the job is important, but it's not enough — it's not FAST enough! In order to
master new skills, gain new insights, and learn new strategies, managers need to immerse themselves
in specially designed, intensive high-level training programs to keep pace with the competition.
That's why savvy business managers recognize the value of executive education as a way to both
enhance their company's performance and advance their own careers. An Invaluable Resource
Through the Daniel-Mickel Center (DMC), all the global business expertise you need is at your disposal. As a business unit within the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, we draw upon a remarkable network of global business experts, including outstanding professors at USC and throughout the world. The Daniel-Mickel Center serves as the vital link between corporations and the Moore School of Business in creating mutually beneficial partnerships. Such companies as GTE, Xerox, Phelps Dodge, UNUM, and Hillenbrand Industries have all selected the Center within the past year to serve as their "knowledge partner" for executive education and consulting services.
When it comes to customizing global business training programs for both U.S.-based and foreign-based multinationals, the Daniel-Mickel Center has become a true leader. Since its inception in 1972, the Center has served over 250,000 people from business, industry, and government with seminars, workshops, conferences, and short courses.
The program descriptions featured, represent the broad range of customized executive education recently conducted by the Daniel-Mickel Center for transnational corporations. These companies chose the Center because of its expertise in global executive education, its flexibility in meeting client needs, and its outstanding reputation as one of the top university-based executive education centers in the United States.
As a global leader in international business education, the Moore School of Business is experiencing rapid growth in its relationships with transnational firms. Due to increasing demand by corporations for specially-designed global, regional or country-specific programs for their managers, the Center's activity in custom programs has greatly expanded over the past few years. This was reflected in the Daniel-Mickel Center being ranked fourth in the nation among major U.S. business schools in providing customized programs for companies.
Needs Analysis, Program Design and DeliveryThe traditional model of customizing executive education programs is dramatically changing. Following a European model, progressive companies are seeking more applied and in-depth learning. Standard "one-shot" classroom instruction using generic case studies is becoming a thing of the past.
Companies are seeking "knowledge partners" to work with them on a longer-term, more consultative basis. This requires a much more sophisticated level of understanding of the client company's business, its cultural context, its competition and its global challenges. The Daniel-Mickel Center is successfully navigating this transition. We work very closely with our international corporate partners and assist in identifying not only the critical managerial competencies that must be developed, but the business strategies needed to drive their organization's performance into tomorrow's millennium.
In this fast changing international arena, the scope of knowledge and expertise required by most client firms is well beyond the capabilities of any single institution's faculty resources. The DMC is ready with its extensive network of faculty, consultants, experienced business practitioners, and institutional partners (both inside and outside the United States) to deliver virtually any type of executive development experience for managers anywhere in the world. Our unique capabilities include:
The DMC has the good fortune to be able to look at both sides of the international equation. We are involved in helping companies understand how to do business in other parts of the world, as well as helping managers of foreign operations understand the business principles and approaches of their headquarters' country.
The DMC is particularly strong in consulting with client firms in the areas of strategy, marketing, finance, leadership development, globalization, organizational development, managing change and transition, mergers and acquisitions, and human resource development. Within these subject areas, some of the topics most requested are emerging markets, business development, currency exchange and financial risk, and creating transnational teams and networks.
