Download Brochure

This September, Executive Education at the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina will collaborate with Midlands Technical College in presenting the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program. The seven module program will be offered at Midlands Technical College’s Airport Campus and at other technical colleges in the state via interactive video conferencing. The individual advisory boards will be combined to reflect this collaboration.

This nationally certified CFP® certification education program allows individuals to further their education in the field of comprehensive financial planning by seeking certification from the CFP Board of Standards, Inc.

“Our program (at MTC) has always been strong with high enrollments,” said Patsy Towery, director of the Center for Special Programs and Community Education at Midlands Technical College. “Both Midlands Technical College and Moore School of Business are looking forward to our collaboration making the program even stronger.”

“Through interactive conferencing at South Carolina’s technical colleges, we will now be able to make financial training available throughout the state,” said Charlie Farrell, director of Executive Education for the Moore School of Business. “We are excited about leveraging the resources of our highly nationally ranked business school with the great job Midlands Technical College has done. This is an example of the efforts underway in our state to offer better services for our financial leaders in South Carolina.”

The joint program will be coordinated by Neil A. Brown, CPA, CFP®, who has served as CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Program Director at Midlands Technical College since December 2001.

Students who successfully complete the 2007 program will be certified as eligible to apply to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination in July 2009. These students must have an undergraduate degree and three years of work experience and pass this national certification examination to receive the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification.

Classes will begin September 13, 2007, on Thursday evenings, 6-9 pm, for an 18-month period and may also be taken individually. The seven-course certificate program covers Fundamentals of Financial Planning, Insurance Planning, Estate Planning, Income Tax Planning, Investment Planning, Retirement Planning, and finishes with a capstone (case study) component. Tuition is $3500. Individual courses are $695. Payment plans are available.
